Suture removal and post-operative care for Hygienists and Therapists - Half Day Course
This course is for hygiene therapists working with oral surgery procedures: extractions, periodontal and implant surgery who wish to extend their scope of practice and gain additional skills carried out under the direction of a dentist.
This half day course will enable hygienists and therapists to be confident and competent in removing sutures after the wound has been checked by a dentist.
This blended learning course aims to develop theoretical knowledge and technical skills.

Students must have:
- GDC registration
- A supervising dentist to assist with building a portfolio to show competence.
- Students must have access to assist with patients who require suture removal and post operative care.
- They must have written confirmation from a supervising dentist that they take responsibility for overseeing the students training in the workplace Written confirmation that they are able to attend the training course as required so that they receive instruction in the theoretical knowledge necessary to assist with suture removal and post operative care techniques competently.
COMPUTING REQUIREMENTS
You will need a computer or tablet with internet access to complete your portfolio and upload your work for assessment

ASSESSMENT
You will be expected to submit your work online through our dedicated student learning hub .
Assessment is an essential part of this course learning and you are expected to meet all agreed course deadlines and work with your assigned workplace supervisor
Course materials are available to cover the essential aspects for this course. Independent research is essential to optimise your understanding and learning.
After completion of the one day workshop, you will be required with the guidance of your supervising dentist to build a portfolio of 4 patients to show your competence
Once verified, you will be awarded your certificate of competency in suture removal and post operative care.
