Extended Duties -Dental Photography
This fun and practical day will give you confidence when taking clinical photographs and benefit chair-side nursing skills. Photography has become an essential tool in daily clinical practice for most clinicians. Dental nurses can be extremely good at this and compliment their clinicians work.
Objectives:
- To acquire the basic theoretical and practical concepts of photography to develop a high-quality technique.
- Understand the need for consent to capture, store and use images appropriately will also be discussed.Use the settings and commands of the camera appropriately.
- Learn a photographic protocol to ensure the adequate number of intra-oral and extra-oral photographs are routinely taken.
- Discover the methods of storage, manipulation and presentation of clinical photography.
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Use the equipment for digital photography appropriately
- Adjust the settings of the camera for each type of photo in a simple and predictable manner.
- Take optimal intra-oral and extra-oral digital photographs
- Demonstrate understanding of consent in clinical photography
- Store and manage photos
Clinical Dental Photography
Dental nurses interested in developing their clinical photography skills
Some equipment is provided but please bring your own SLR camera , flash and lens if you have them.
Course limited to 10-12 students
Students must have:
- GDC registration
- Students must have access to consenting patients to allow them to take dental photographs and build their portfolio.
- They must have written confirmation from a supervising dentist that they take responsibility for overseeing the students training in the workplace
- Be self-motivated
Attendance at this workshop is essential to gain practical and theoretical skills.
Clinical Dental Photography
Dr Begoña Martí completed her Master’s Degree in Prosthodontics at the University of Valencia, Spain. During this time she developed excellent clinical photography skills which allows her to pay more attention to detail, perform accurate diagnosis, improve the quality of treatment options and is essential for patient communication and record keeping.
SUPPORT FROM YOUR TUTOR
You will have a tutor allocated to you who will help you with your portfolio and mark and comment on your uploaded work. You can ask your tutor for help and guidance.
ASSESSMENT
You will need access to a SLR camera, lens and flash to complete your portfolio and gain your certificate
After completion of the one day workshop, you will be required to build a patient portfolio over 6 weeks to show your competence. Once verified, you will be awarded your certificate of competency in clinical dental photography.You will be expected to submit your work online through our dedicated student learning hub or through handwritten Assessment is an essential part of this course learning and you are expected to meet all agreed course deadlines and work with your assigned workplace supervisor.
