Competency Package for Local Anaesthetic
This competency package is designed for dental hygienists who have gained their qualifications outside of the UK and are required to meet learning outcomes related to the administration of local anaesthesia in order to register with the GDC and practice as a dental hygienist in the United Kingdom.
It is also designed for UK qualified hygienists who gained their qualification prior to 2012 and want to up-skill and gain competency in the administration of local anaesthetic.
Delegates must complete the Dawood and Tanner Academy LA course workshop or another LA course delivered by a reputable training provider before registering- dates for 2024 and 2025 are on this website -
Competency Package
1. Online theory training with a dedicated tutor. This can take place over arranged Zoom meetings. You will be provided with documentation to support the theoretical studies for Local Anaesthetics for Dental Hygienists.
2. Under the guidance and support of your named GDC registered workplace mentor you will complete an LA portfolio, there will be 10 ID blocks and 10 infiltrations to complete and be signed off as Competent.
Once your dedicated tutor has received and assessed your portfolio, together with a short assessment , you will receive your Certificate of Competency.
(Please note the Competency Package does not include the LA and Pain Management course. This must be booked and paid for separately)
Competency Package for Local Anaesthetic
UK qualified and GDC registered dental hygienist who qualified prior to 2012
Dental Hygienists who gained their qualification outside of the UK and are required to meet learning outcomes in LA in order to register and work as a GDC registered hygienist in the UK.
Delegates must have completed an LA and Pain Management Course either with the Academy or another reputable training provider, before embarking on the Competency Package.
We also need clarification that you have a GDC registered workplace mentor, and they are happy to support and mentor you. Dawood and Tanner Academy will send your workplace mentor documents to complete and sign.

Rolling registration. Online theory is taken either 1:1 or in small student groups dependant on demand.
